Oliver 88 dsl worth dead or alive

Hi Guys-
I am still trying to decide whether to rebuild or release my 88. Needs rod and possibly main bearings. What is the hulk worth in this condition (runs but knocks bad)? How much would turning the crank and a bearing kit cost? I have the manual sections on this, thanks pstanley. I really like this tractor but I always seem to have too much to do. I have an ok shop and a buddy has a dolly for splitting the tractor.

In its present condition, it would be tough to get more than a few hundred, if that- there seem to be a lot of these old gals around still, and the Super 88 is quite a bit more popular than the straight 88. I passed on an 88 gas recently, that smoked but ran well and didn't knock, at $800. The kit for a diesel will cost 800 to a grand (that will include pistons, rings, etc.- and if you're going to do it, do the whole job), plus cost of grinding crank- so you'll have more in it than its worth- BUT, as you often see on this board, if you really like the tractor, go for it- nobody (except maybe the wife) said our hobbies have to "pay"- when's the last time you saw someone break even on a speedboat?
