2255 pto problem

Tried our 2255 on an irrigation pump last saturday and found the engine speed pto was not running at full speed. In fact, as I increased engine rpm's, the pto slowed down. The last time we used the pto on a pump was 3 years ago and it worked fine. Is this a valve problem or do I have something bigger such as bad clutches or a blown oil seal as a problem. Any ideas would be appreciated. Just lost another pumping tractor and I need to get this one up and running.

The priority valve could be stuck. One way to check it would be to engage PTO and step on brake pedal and see if it kicks the PTO lever out.If the seals are bad in the PTO, you will be losing oil from the Hyd system and it will go into the rear end. Also check PTO valve under the plastic cover and see if the little pin is in place on the lever that operates the spool.

Thanks Lee. I have not worked with the priority valve, in fact do not even know where it is on my tractor. I did pull the pto apart and found all seals to be in good shape, but the clutches were pretty much ravaged. Only one appeared to be usable. Rebuild it with all new clutches. Haven't tried it out yet, but it should be to specs. Turns out the tractor will be needed since I found out I lost another clutch on my cummins powered 1855.
