Long post. Got a few questions. About four years ago the hydraulic pump on my 1855 diesel (believe it's an earlier one) was replaced with a "brand new" pump (Vickers) that was nearly $1000 from a shop that works on a few Olivers. The old pump was green the new one was red. Now the near four year old pump is not working and I have ordered a remanufactured pump with a one year guarantee (which is not here yet, did look inside the old one). Now, the near four year old that I removed myself, has some of the paint off, and there is green paint under the red on the four allen bolts that hold on the "pressure setter" on the side and on the four bolts that hold the case of the pump together, I don't notice any on the pump itself. One question is this, why would a brand new pump have green bolts painted red? Why would a new pump go bad after that amount of time only running a baler, stackmover, and bunching 1200 lb. bales once in a while (maybe about 400 hours on tractor)? I didn't see any leaks that haven't always been there (barely drips, the old pump lasted over 20 years with them, and probably many years before). I changed the oil and filter regularly. One day using the stackmover, when I had loaded and was across the pasture that day, an o ring blew on the steel return line above the filler/dipstick (oil was HOT, pump/oil never seemed to be before). The oil was not low and I didn't see any leaks prior or after. It wasn't a hot day. When the pump was replaced four years ago, they did work on the 3 point (it seemed to work flawlessly even when the old pump was weak) and wouldn't say why. Since then the three point settles when the tractor is off, and sometimes the lever won't do anything when I move it (but if it works once, it will work until I shut the tractor off). Also I was wondering where the Hydraulic oil temp sensor is, how hard it would be to replace it or get the light working, or get a hydraulic oil temp gauge (preferred). I would also like info on anything I need to do when installing the new pump, priming, cleaning, and anything to check after overheated oil, etc. Thanks!! alanh@kmtel.net
