I AM LOOKING AT BUILDING A HEAVY CLASS PULLER FOR FARM PULLS POSSIBLY MORE IF ALL GOES WELL.WOULD THIS BE A GOOD SETUP?A 1950 W/DETROIT I'VE ALWAYS HEARD THAT THEY RUN THE RPMS.MOST OF THE OTHERS IN THIS CLASS ARE RUNNING 1066'S,6030'S,AND A FEW HOT 4255'STHANX IN ADVANCE FOR ANY ADVICE. P.S. HOW MANY HORSE AND ARE THEY RELATIVELY EASY TO CRANK UP?

I don't know about pulling, but my 1950 came from the factory at 105-108 hp. At a recent overhaul, it was stepped up to about 125 hp. It just screams now. I have also seen where the 4-71 detroit was replaced with a larger detroit engine.

I used to pull a 1950, I put 60 injectors and 3000 rpm governor weights in it. If you are going to pull with the tractors you mentioned you best be looking for a turbo for it,then you will have to change piston's 21.1-1 compression is a little much for a turbo. They make 17-1 pistons for the 4-53T.
