I own a 1250 Oliver diesel built by Fiat that has a bad starter. Does anyone know of a 12 volt starter from any other tractor that would fit this tractor? I can't even find an original 24 volt starter so since I wanted to change it over to a 12 volt system, I need a 12 volt starter. Surely there is something that would work..lol..at least I hope there is. I hate to have to pull-start this thing forever, or more likely junk an otherwise good tractor. Thanks for any help.

any competent independent starter/generator/alternator rebuilder should be able to rebuild your starter, solenoid and drive as long as the castings are not broken with missing pieces. even broken pieces can be heliarced together. Try an auto rebuilder specilizing in restoration of antique vehicles- Hemmings should have some listings. Dont listen to the "it cant be done" nitwits

Tim,
I have a 1250 Oliver with a bad 24 volt starter. I found a Bosch starter 12 volt that was on a Deutz 3006 tractor that is the same starter. I had to file the bolt holes just alittle bit and also the frame of the tractor just alittle bit to make it fit. It fixed my starter problem.

I have a 1365 fiat oliver. I have 12 volts factory but put on a starter from a 5050 allis which too is a fiat. this starter is a delco and spins the engine fast so it starts beautifully cost is high I believe it is 450 dollars. I could look up the part number

If it is a Delco starter, a local alt/starter repair shop should be able to put a new stator, bearings, etc. in it. All they need is your housing in decent shape. Cost would probably be under $250.
