I found a white/oliver 1655 turbo diesel with cab.
Put battery in & it fired up like someone started
it 5 minutes ago.Hasen't been used for ahwile but
sounds great. Is this a good tractor or should i steer clear? I don't really know anything about it
but i can pick it up cheap. I would appreciate any input i can get. Thanks, Alvin

I have had a 1655 D since 1995. I really like the tractor, very handy, good gearing, nice power steering. I haven't had to do anything to it except for regular maintenance. I would be a little leary of the turbo, though. As larry stated, they did not come with a turbo, it must be an add on unit. Some of the Olivers had engine problems when they tried to "juice up" the Waukesha engine. Make sure you run it until it warms up and check everything over carefully.

Here is a picture of my 1655. I agree with Big Jim, they are very nice tractors and run good, but I would be very leery of a turbo on the 283. I know my engine would not be able to handle a turbo, or it would come apart. Be sure the engine has been built correctly to handle the charger, or take the charger off when you get the tractor. Just my 2 cents.

They did not come from the factory with a turbo.Good tractors, but i would wonder if something broke. Try everything, pull on the hydrolic lever and see if it blows the relief valve.Any tractor with a major change like this usualy sells for less.

Gentlemen,First let me say thank you for your input, i know nothing about tractors--just started
looking for one & a friend showed me this one & after running it& listening to it, it really sounds good. I did pull on hyd. lever just because
& it brought the rpm's down a little,but nothing
major as far as i'm concerened.I don't think $1,000 is too much, what do you think??? Am i wrong? Also can anyone give me a clue about how much a loader would cost & are they easy to find?
I'm very handy so if it can be put on, no problem. Thank's again, Alvin

For $1,000 take it home!!! 1655's go for $4,000 to $6,000 and up in good condition around here. Loaders are pretty easy to find and many of the newer brands of loaders will fit onto Olivers. You may have to do some work to the tractor, but that is a good deal. Plus that is the fun of owning an older tractor :-)
