770 governor hunting

Just finishing a major amount of work on a Lull forklift (based on Oliver 770) only problem that remains is hunting or surging when throttling up. Carb (Marvel Schebler with adj main jet) was soaked several days in solvent all passages cleaned with wire and air. Idles great but varying load can set it into hunting when accellerating. Any ideas would be helpfull. Thanks Chuck

Check the governor to carb linkage. If there is any stiffness, binding or worn pivots in the linkage it'll cause exactly what you describe. Check especially the carb throttle shaft - with the linkage removed the shaft should rotate freely with the lightest finger pressure. If not, find and correct the cause (bent shaft, bushings too tight, etc).
