Hello everyone. I just bought a 1900 Wheatland and have a couple of questions. I normally wrench on the Red ones but I thought I would try a different color for a change. From my number books it looks to be a 1961 model. I am not familar with Olivers but the book says it to have 12 speeds forward and 4 reverse. The shift pattern shows 6 fwd & 2 rev.. What am I missing here? Also it has power steering but where is the reservoir? I need a tach cable for it. Are parts hard to find? It has a 4-53 Detroit Diesel. Is this good or bad? It starts and runs good. I know these are dumb questions but bare with me. I would appreciate any info. Thanks for your time.

Congrats on a fine machine. Like the other post said, the 12 speeds and 4 reverse are when the 6 and 2 are doubled with the two-speed partial range power shift (Hydra-Power drive). Like my White (basic Oliver chassis), the power steering comes off the main hydraulics via flow divider. The Detroit Diesel is the best out there. Second to none in unmatched durability, reliability, and a unique ear-ringing scream in full flight. Detroits didnt lug so well since when the RPM's drop this slows the the blower that scavenges the exhaust gases out of the cylinders and this causes less effective combustion. Oliver put torque convertors in some tractors with Detroits to improve their lugging ability. Engine parts are easy to get since the Detroit was used in a huge number of OEM applications. I think they are phasing them out in the 53 series 2 stroke, but since there were so many made, there is a lot of support out there. The tach cables on Detroits often run from the accessory drive at the rear of the engine. hope this helps.

It may or may not have a two speed Hydro between the motor and the trans. It's REAL easy to see.
The power steering is probably run off the lift cyl. pump off of a flow divider mouted to the upper front of the trans case under the seat.
I just bought a tach. cable from Vitoria Oliver
361-575-2562. It's just down the road from me here in TX. It was kinda high, about $47.00
I hope this helps
