How many 2255's were made and what years? Seems ultra-rare. My neighbor has one in like-new condition. He says it's about 160 horse. I think it's a 73' model. The CAT V-8 diesel purrs like a kitten with a chrome straight pipe.

No, the 2255's are really not that rare. They were built between 1971 and 1976 and just over 31,000 of them were built. There are a lot of Oliver models that are a lot more rare then that one. They origionally came out at 145Hp but can be turned up to gain more power very easily.

I agree with Shep that they are not that rare. We have two, one with 2 wd and one with 4 wd. On the overhaul of the 4wd, we bumped the hp up to 210 and now call this tractor our beast. About 7 years ago, I ran an ad looking for a 2255 and got about 20 responses. Price ranged from $3,500 to $15,000. Settled for a 2wd from MN for $7,000 with original engine but new rubber. I have also seen a picture of the White version sold in Canada, all gussied up with new red & white paint and chrome. It would be cool to own one and a later version of the US White counterpart to see if the neighbors could figure out which one is the real deal. Seems the neighbors think red as in IH red is the real deal. nuff said!

as a follow up to my dads post on our "Beast" one thing to be aware of. They are apain in the poop chute if you have to replace a starter.. that is the one bad thing, other wise yeah, we love em! :)
