I'm in the process of putting a clutch in my tractor and after taking it apart I've found that the splined shaft on the transmission side of the coupler has seen it's better day. My question is which way does that come off? Do I have to take the deck off or will it come out the front? There are 3 bolts around the shaft, but that looks like it just holds on the bearing mount. Any answers would be greatly appriated.

You will have to to take the top off of the transmission because you have some lock rings that need to be removed in order to remove the shaft from the housing. Plus you have to deal with some gears and bearings as well.

You will need to remove the pto before you can remove the cover if you have a lift or hydraulic system on your 77 also.
