i have two questions about my 1947 oliver 70. first, the stripe around the front that comes up and around the "70", what color is that? i was told it was perian orange. is is that or is it the same red as the wheels? Second, i am having to install a new engine and bell housing in my tractor. do i shim to the engine or to the body? or should i play it by ear? thanks for any help.

The "belly stripe" which comes around up to the front is red, just like the wheels. A yellow "70"
is on the front in the red stripe.

I know, 'cause I looked at mine on Sunday. While
it was painted over some time ago, you can still
see the red.

Mine's a '46 bought in '47. Runs like a top.

Gary is correct. I was thinking 37 instead of 47
37 was the last year for the persian orange stripe. I have a 38 and it has a red stripe same color as the wheels.

I think you'll find a 47 stripe was red the same color as the wheels. The persian orange is a AC color which is used on the hartparr 70's and possibly the early styled ones

Nateman,

Yes the stripe is Persian Orange. As for the shims
there should be shims under the front mount in the
timing cover as well as on both sides of the bell
housing. What you are trying to shim is the side to side (horizontal) and up and down (vertical)
alignment between the clutch output shaft and the trans input shaft. The book says no more than .005
horizontal or vertical. The book also says to use a dial indicator but you have to remove the belt pulley drive to do so. I have had good luck just useing a machinists straight edge.

Hope this helps
Toby
