Oliver 2255 4wd lock up

The front left wheel locked up on my dad last night. We had to remove the gears in each of the wheels to allow the tractor to move. In other works, we now have a 2wd drive that looks like a 4wd. Unfortunately, my dad is hard of hearing and probably didn't realize the front end was clicking or knocking as he was using the tractor. Any ideas on what kind of problems I have and is there a good source of parts for this beast?

Mike, We just bought a 2-70 with the Clark front end and when I asked the dealer about repairs for this unit, he mentioned that they had sent a few to a place in Ohio for repair. And the repair consisted of cutting the joint ends off of the axles and replacing them with a regular U-joint. I believe they said it was about $900 for the repair and made a very nice setup. Definitely something to look into since yours is stuck anyway. The dealer was Coryn Farm Supply in Canandaigua, NY. Phone #(716)394-6191.

I would guess the u joint is broke. It's not really a U joint it is 5 steel balls in a set of jaws. They are very expencive to repair.The whole half shaft must be replaced,welding does not work. This is a very common problem with this clark axel.Lots of other parts can be damaged as well.I have not tried to buy one in a long time,gave up trying to fix,just use rear wheels.

The joint is the most likly problem. The part is around $1,650 from agco I priced one out of curiosity last year. You might try a industral equipment dealer or a construction junkyard may have a whole axle or one with the same ratio that your rims would fit. Once heard some one claim they got one out of a napa store? We have not had much trouble with these joints. Most guys don't maintain the grease in the housing it so they whear out. I love my mfwd 2255 and personaly would not go with out the 4 wd working.

Thanks Adam, we got ours apart and found the outside shaft busted at the joint. Since I am new to these, I am not certain if the shafts must come in a matched pair ie inside and outside or if I can just replace the broken part. I agree that I will fix my 2255 4wd. Its a beast of a tractor with a 210 hp engine that would be wasted without the 4wd.
