The 88's were introduced in 1947 with the round nose style of the old 70's. Sometime during the production run of 1948 the sheet metal was changed to the Fleetline styling that we have all come to know. It is my understanding that when Oliver changed the styling, they offered the new sheet metal to those who had purchased the earlier 88's. Some were obviously changed and some were not. I know of only one old style 88 here in Ks. but I'm sure there are others. Kinda rare, if you find one, hang on to it.

Sometime after the 88 came with new sheet metal Oliver offered to trade in 70 style metal for the new sytle. That makes the old style ones even harder to find. I have a friend with a 1947 88 his grandfather bought new and had the metal traded.

A friend of mine has two Streamliner 88's with consecutive serial numbers. One has had the sheet metal swapped out though, the other is still original. He has been looking for the original sheet metal for his other tractor for a while now.

Yes, 1947.
The only "streamliner 88's" were the '47 88's. All the rest were "fleetlines".

I have one of those 88s out by my barn with a wide front end. The serial number is 121079. My serial # list puts it as being built in early 1948. Is my book wrong, or were a few made after the end of 47?

Hi John,

I have a 1948 "old style" 88, so a few must have been produced in early 1948 (at least that's what all the books say). My serial number is close to yours, I'll have to see just how close.

Enjoy, Joe
