I am oliverchallanged, I'm going to look at a 770 next monday and know ablolutly nothing about olivers. I currently have an H FARMALL and love it.We are in need of a little more power with more updated hydrolics and live power. I'm told this tractor is it. does anyone have some info on this tractor? Personal opinions are welcomed.I don't know if its gas or diesel. does this really matter. Anyone know the horsepower? thanks in advance dan.

i got a 770 diesel They are a better tractor then the farmalls. put out 47 h. p. Buy It.....

As proud owner of a early production 770, I couldn't ask for a better tractor. It has about 46-48 hp, I can pull a 3-16 plow in PA. clay and shale soil and she just rolls along. I've baled 2000 bales of a hay a year and never had a problem. The gas/diesel question is a question that will always be a debate. I prefer a gas engine for lower repair costs and easier maint., but diesel fuel is cheaper and gives you more "grunt". If you are looking for a three point hitch tractor, make sure the one you are looking at has a factory hitch. Mine didn't and I bought a aftermarket hitch and I am less than pleased with the hitch. It works fine for brush hogging and fork work, but not so well for plowing, too much play in the hitch. I have been piecing a factory three point togther of the past 4 months and finally have all the parts.

I also own a 1959 Oliver "770" gas tractor. Very good tractor. Would recommend a good one to anyone. Actually , depending on the part , they are getting a little easyer to find , due to reproduction parts. I paid 3400.00 for mine about 6 years ago. It was a little high at the time , but the tractor looked and run like new. I never regreted it.
