after replacing the pto driveshaft, gear lube is leaking past the retaining plug. I think the o-ring is not correctly installed. Does anyone know the correct way to install the o-ring. Does it go on the plug or the pto drive shaft. Would it help to install two o-rings. Any advice would be helpfull. Thanks Dave

The oring seals against the plug. The plug can be in the wrong spot or the ring may have been damaged.the oring is put in the grove then push in plug.Oring must be removed before shaft is pulled.

Thanks for the reply Larry. I take it there is a groove in the hollow shaft the pto drive shaft slides into.Is the groove in the spined or the smooth part or the shaft. I couldn't see one but it might be plugged with the old one as none came out when I removed the shaft and its kind of hard to see in there. Thanks Dave

The old one is in there you have to dig it out.A dental pick works. They are harder to get out if they where not removed before the shaft was pulled. The shaft cuts the ring to the same shape as the spline, makeing it very hard to see.Another tool can be made from a small screwdriver and bend a 90 angle on the end.

Larry, the oring was right where you said it would be. Got it out and put a new one in and no leaks. Was cut just like the spline.Would never have found it without your advice. Saved me a lots of time and fooling aroud. Thanks again.Happy Easter. Dave
