Gear Oil in the Brakes

1. Disconnect the brake pedal linkage fro m the brake lever and remove the brake lever. (which you must already know how to do if you did a brake job) A puller may be required to remove the lever or pedal from the brake eccentric.

2. Remove the brake drum cover and outer guides if the brake is so equiped.

3. Remove the brake band and brake lever assembly or the brake band and ecentric assembly.

4. Remove the brake drum. To remove the drum, it is necessary to straighten the bent spline on the lock washer and remove the brake drum nut. The nut may be removed by placing a piece of one inch square steel stock in the drum nut and turning the square stock with a wrench. (Like using the stock as a big allen key)

The oil seal is just behind the nut. Hope this helps.

The only thing is, is there signs of oil leaking around the brake drum cover? If not, where was the gear oil going? You might have other seal problems somewhere else.

Actually, no there wasn't... I think that is because there was a large quantity of grease and chaff inside of the brake drum, most of the gear oil soaked into the chaff, and some dripped out when I was doing the brakes....
