Recently I replaced the pump in my Super 88. When I got it back together the pressure was way high (1800 lbs). I have since placed 4 copper crush washers on the relieve valve and now the pressure goes to about 500 lbs at idle, 800 lbs at 1/3 throttle 1000 lbs at 2/3 throttle and 1200 lbs at full throttle. I would expect the pressure to be constant at all speeds until the pressure rose to the point of causing the relieve valve to allow bypass. Anybody have an idea on whats happening ?

I posted a field test procedure for your system above on April 1st, not joking. Just click on the link to Photopoint and go to view full size.

Is the return to the tank blocked? With the old gear pumps its comon for the preasure to be low at slower speeds. I have to go to full throttle to get 900 out of mine. The old S88 that we sold would go to 1100 at half and not go any higher as you sped up. The preasure relief valve is supposed to make a differant noise when it opens. Does this happen?

the relieve valve does seem to be letting some bypass at all speeds, I do hear a noise like a dull sort of bypass. But I am not hearing the definite "squeal" that I am accustomed to when the relief valse opened in the past.
