You'll find a lot of 550 fans on this board, including me. In short, the 550 is what the 8N Ford should have been- compact size very similar to 8N (in fact, some of the steering parts even interchange), but 40 HP, live hydraulics, independant PTO. Absolutely perfect for mowing, etc., as it is agile and has a short turning radius. Easy to steer even without power steering, unless you have a loader. Some seem to have trouble with the PTO, but I've had mine for 20+ years and have never had a problem (it's a "dry stack" independant, with hand lever- I think the secret is to "feather" it when you engage it, and keep it adjusted properly). It's the next newer model after the Super 55, and there isn't a lot of difference- a little more power, some sheetmetal changes, etc. As to value-if it's good, should be around $2,500 to $3,500. Power steering will increase the value. They've increased in value over the past few years, as their popularity has grown.
