I have a 66 oliver that seems to need a new governor. Does anyone know where I might find a replacement? Or, someone that may be able to rebuild mine? Any idea of the cost would be appreciated also.

Paul, does your 66 surge when you're pulling it hard? We're rebuilding an 88 governor right now, because it surged whenever it was under a heavy enough load. We took it off and are replacing all of the worn parts. I think the biggest thing is that spring that's connected to the adjustment screw in the front of the governor housing. On our 88, it is too short. It's supposed to be 7/16"-1/2" in length. Our 88's is 1/16" too short. Then we're replacing the weights, weight pins, bushing in governor housing and engine block, bearing, race and spool, thrust washer, and that spring. Don't know the cost yet, gonna order the parts next week. Hope this helps.

I would do it yourself.There are some things that happen that can be easyly fixed.Some times people will pull too hard and force the external parts past each other.You can use a big screwdriver and force them back.Sometimes they goo up and washing it out will fix.Any good mechanic should be able to work on an old govener.

The old tractors rpm's surge up and down terribly. I just got in contact with a mechanic that says he has had a bit of experience with this problem and will try to repair it for me. I also have my fathers old 88 to restore,and my grandfathers ALLIS WC.. Thanks for the help folks. Paul
