High pressure on Super 88 hydraulics

I few months back I broke the center plate on my S-88 pump. This week-end I got the new pump installed and got everything back together. I put a pressure guage on the hose going to the up lift on my (three point) lift arms. I gradually put the hydraulics to it (at idle) and the pressur went to almost 2000 PSI. I don't have any shims in the relief valve and I'm usimg a copper crush washer, yet my pressure seems to be way too high. Am I doing something wrong. Any ideas on why the pressure is so high.

Haven't seen it personally, but I have heard that the steel relief valve seat can unscrew in the aluminum base and prevent relief. The pic is Ver II and yours would be Ver III but porting should be same at the relief valve. The port just due North of the spring comes from the pump and goes thru the 1st valve then on to the second valve. If you remember, the RV plug has a long stinger to serve as a guide, if the seat unscrews - the valve can't open.

Thanks jld. I know firsthand about the seat backing out. That happened to me last summer. As it backs out it also does quite a bit of damage to the relatively soft aluminum threads. However in this case I had just installed the the seat and RV when I installed the pump and I know it was correctly in place.
I just wonder if there is something wrong with the way I'm testing the pressure.

Maybe take the RV spring & poppet out - put the plug back in and carefully try again. Bet your guage is right and the pump is not liking it at all.
