What I've been able to find with the 310 is a majority of the engine problems can be traced to the folowing. #1 problem Bad wrist pin bushings resulting in pounding the rest to pieces and eventualy the crank, rod bolts or posibly the rod it self breaking. #2 electrolisis. #3 diesel in oil. #4 crank shaft dampeners #5 bad head gaskets insist on the black gaskets not the red ones. I've also heard the therory that in the 1855 and 1955 The tork is too great and the block actualy twists like that of the deere 4 wds resulting in broken rod bolts and cranks. Now I have a hard time beleving this. Unless A. The mounting bolts are loose B. the mounting pads on either the engine or frame are not even C. A sever stress implment is mounted on front such as a dozer blade. A freind of mine fixed a lot of 310's over the years and since the one piece bushings and new rod bolts came out has yet to have a rod out the side. In fact dad's 1950-T has near 6,000 hrs on the rebuild. I know of another 1755 that has 7,500 hrs on the new pin bushings. Ultamtly a big limitation of the rebuilt 310 is surface bearing area is not enuff. With todays high quality oils, by pass filters to keep the contamination low and an oil to air cooler on the front to keep up the thickosity it should not be a problem. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. It's hard to beleve all to olver tractors I come across with original oliver filters on the hydra powers and transmission units makes me wounder about the engine oil.
