What can you folks tell me about an Oliver 1550 to handle general chores (plowing snow, mowing, light plowing and maybe making hay). What sort of price range would you expect for an original machine in good shape with a loader? Any engine or other problems to worry about with this model Waukesha? Thanks in advance.

I agree with Big Jim . I have a 1555 . A friend of mine has both a 1650 and 1655 . Both can do a lot more work than my 1555 . Those extra 10 to 15 horses make a difference . Hydraulics are also better on 1650 and 1655 .

Sounds like you are looking and haven't bought yet. If this is true, why not get a 1650 instead of 1550? They are usually about the same price and a 1650 is better tractor, more power and less shifting problems. Just my two cents worth.

A friend bought one in real nice shape with a almost new loader - good heavy "Durham" loader and gave $5200 from a JD dealer - don't think you'll find a deal like this every day!

I agree with the other post,but you should know the 1550 has the old slideing gear transmission and is a little harder shifting than the 1650.The hydro-power makes the shifting a little worse.With pratice loader and mower work can be done well,but some people who have driven other makes find them too hard to shift.The trick is you need to shift right before the tractor stops moveing.

I've seen auction results on this site posted from $3000-$5000. Depending on how much power you want, they are a great chore tractor. Have a gas model row crop with a 1610 loader. Has been very dependable, always starts. Plow size is 3-16s or 4-14s. Use it to mow etc. No problem moving big bales. There are both utility and row crop models. Have not had any problems with parts, oil filters available at NAPA. Good luck..dwm

I have 67 1550 D really a nice tractor. DO NOT over rev this engine!I found out the hard way.If you plan to mow road ditches with a steep angle this is not recomended due to poor oiling in engine. I pull 3-18 in fairly heavy ground with no problems.Loader is not a bulldozer but with some practice it holds its own.

i have 1550 D great tractor 4-5 k is price around pa. does shift stiff better with under drive out . does all i need with baler and tillage good luck
