Larry - in response to your message under 1950-T, if 95% of the oil is going through the turbo, isn't there a way to restrict the flow?? My 1855 runs great except for the low oil pressure. Does anyone else have any ideas or input that may help. (see MikeO post below)

Does it have an oil cooler on it? Adding an oil cooler to my 1855 did wonders for the hot oil pressure.

Already has the factory installed oil cooler and the extended oil pan. Are you possibly asking about installing another oil cooler?

No, I was talking about the factory oil cooler. Early ones didn't have an oil cooler, mine didn't.

We measured the oil going through the turbo trying to find what was wrong. All the regulating valves had been replaced, so we asked the oliver dealer. He said to not replace the oil filter in the turbo line, only replace the one on the tractor. I know we had plenty of flow, you could half fill a bucket through the turbo line in 15 seconds. The pump relief was set to 72lbs.The engine would go to 70lbs when started and 30temp,but preasure would drop to 0 when hot and idleing. The engine used no oil untill the head gasket blew. With all the engine trouble i would have tried to repair it if i had a source for parts like i do now. When i parked it in 87 the dealer kept telling me there was no source for the parts i needed.

Mike,

Got a real interesting problem here and maybe guys with lots of years of good field experience like Wrenchbender and the like have some ideas. Condition of turbo is quite important, as oil will act like any fluid under pressure and follow path of least resistance. Getting any blowby in exhaust or under hood? Also, if memory serves, oil pumps in later 310s (1855s) had an integral relief valve in the pump itself. Of course, oil pressure is not as important as oil flow, and as long as you know oil is flowing to all vital parts under some pressure, the engine should be okay. Had a 351 Cleveland Ford engine once, 2 barrel, that only carried 7 psi oil pressure at normal temperature. Never burned a drop, developed unbelievable power, and lasted well past time I got rid of it at 243,000 miles, proof positive that flow is more important than pressure. Interested in hearing everyone else's thoughts on this oil pressure dilemma.

I believe the inlet fitting on turbo is suppose to be modified or updated. The way I remember it the fitting only has about an 1/8" or smaller hole, this restricts the oil flow to the turbo.

I have heard the same thing. That some kind of
restrictor was put in the turbo oil line.
