thought i hit the lotto when i got (looks like a super 55, unable to confirm) my oliver. pulled spark plugs to add some mystery oil & free the motor (exhaust was open to the rain in seattle). i siphened out some rust h20 in the #2 cyl & about a quart of bright green antifreeze from the #4 cyl. looked down the crankcase dipstick hole & it was bright green...drained the oil pan & it seems that all of the cooling systen antifreeze was mixed in with the engine oil....so anyway what does this mean? are the sleeve's prone to cracking? is thier a seal on the sleeve that blew out? cracked head & a cracked piston? engine is stuck so i could not do a compression test to hear where it is leaking..... anybody been thru this before? oh yea.....4 cyl....gas engine thnx in advance alan....in seattle

Oliver engines are prone to antifreeze in the oil. a quick check will save a lot of hassle. fill the cooling system with water, remove the oil pan, and wait. Is there water dripping from the bottom of the sleeves into the pan ? if so, buy replacement o-rings for the bottom of the sleeves and replace them. I had to do this to a 77 recently.

The Super 55 has wet type sleeves and wouldn't be prone to cracking. What has happened is you either have a cracked head or warped head allowing coolant into the combustion chamber, this settles on top of the piston and gradually leaks by the rings into the crankcase,"walla" water in the oil! The good news is you can still get pistons and sleeves for this engine as I recently had my 550 rebuilt and the builder had no problem obtaining parts. He did inform me it is a Waukesha engine. If you decide not to repair let me know, I would be interested in some parts for my 550.

An alternative might be a complete replacement engine. I have for sale a complete used super66(same engine) engine. $500.00 FOB in Montana. It runs good. Hear it run before you buy. Dave

thanks for the replys...i had a feeling the head was ok because the crankcase had almost all the coolant in it (gallons), but it has been sitting for a long time. time to bust out the craftsmans. what a used head fetch on the open market? or are they weldable?

thats not a bad offer dave i'll have to keep that in mind. but before i do any parts/engine shopping im going to turn some wrenches and get to the root of them problem. just curious, how many hours on that engine & how many hours drive to your city in montana from seattle?

I don't have any honest idea of what the hours are on this engine.I just know it sounds alright.About 550 miles from Seattle to Stevensville Mt.I go that way sometimes for other things.Let us all know what you find when you get to the inside. Dave

Dave, might be interested in the super 66 motor or a wide front end if you still have them.
