HELP-Cockshutt 30 from the grove(grave)!

Last year my father-in-law pulled an old 1947 Cockshutt 30 out of the grove where it had been for what we believe was 23 years. We tore down the engine and found a split sleeve. Is the next step to have the sleeves pressed out and get the block tested? This looks to be a real "back from the brink" project. Please give me some input that speaks from your experience. Thanks. IT's a wet sleeve,you can pull them with a simple puller made from threaded rod.The sleeves are near impossible to find alone but piston/ring/sleeve assemblies are available.

If the sleeve is a wet sleeve (and I assuming it is) then all that is necassary is to remove the old ones and replace with new ones. If the engine is a dry sleeve, then the old one will have to be removed with a puller and the new one chilled, the block warmed considerabley, and the new sleeve inserted before everything returns to room (shop) temperature.

Testing or at least dye checking the block for cracks is always a good idea.

Yes they are wet sleeves. I ran across an ad for 4 pistons, rods, and sleeves for the 153 buda at [email protected] for $40.00 a hole. I don't know if they are new though. My dad did a 153 buda 5 years ago and needed 1 sleeve and piston and he paid $90.00.
