I would like to increase the speed of my 88 in road gear is there a ring and pinion to get up to 20 m.p.h.?

Check the ring and pinion combo you have now. If you have the 9/51 set up, I would like to buy it from you.

The 88/Super 88 parts book shows five ring and pinion ratios. Three for the row crop and two for the standard. They are 9/51, 10/47, 11/48 for the RC and 12/47 and 13/48 in the std. My Dad bought an 88 with the slow transmission in 1953 to run a chopper. One of those should do it. My question is why do you that kind of speed?

I go on the great Iowa tractor ride we go about 200 miles and a faster road gear would make it more fun

The Great Iowa Tractor Ride will take place for the fith year and i have been on all 4.WHO Radio puts it on and there will be 700 tractors this year starting in Wterloo 1/2 goin west and 1/2 going east. I took my 88 one year but it was slow and the gears noisy so I took the H Farmall and hope to have my M done for this year.There are no openings, and it sure is alot of fun. June 24-27 are the dates this year.

Why would anyone want to go 20 MPH on an 88? I don't know the details but I know of tractor pullers who have replaced the row crop ring and pinion with one out of a standard. The standard has a smaller ring gear to accomodate the shorter rear wheels. That will make the wheels turn faster. I don't know how much.
