my 770 power boost is stuck in high range. just can not snap it out

Hi,

It has been a couple years since I have had that system apart but a couple of things come to mind.

If the tractor has been sitting or outside in the weather that clutch assembly may be frozen on the shaft. Remove the four screws that secure the cover over the cluthes and carefully spray some penetrant on the splined shaft. Be careful not to get anything on the clutches. Obviously, the linkage must be intact from the shifter. Unfortunately, if nothing is obviously wrong from this vantage point you are probably looking at removing the engine. You can also possibly partially disassemble the clutches and plates without removing the engine and also remove surface rust though too. Good luck!

Paragraph from the Repair Manual, Trouble Shooting:

CANNOT SHIFT POWER-BOOSTER FROM ONE POSITION TO THE OTHER-Overcenter clutch release bering may have failed, or the control linkage is disconnected or broken.

There's a start. Good luck. Maybe someone can give you more to go on.

Hi Jerry , I'm just backing up what Paul Stanly had to say. I've done some preventitive maintainence work on my power booster drive in my "770". I would guess that it was the over center clutch bearing , or one of the ears on the forks that shift the clutch back and forth. It also can be the shifting fork it self. You will have to take a physical look at them. I'm shure once you pull the tin cover off , the problem will jump out at you.
