i was wondering if anyone has done a v8 in a 60 or 70 even, i have a 60 with the motor bad and pretty rough condition and i have a spare smallblock chevy laying around and i figured what a better combo, any clues to how difficult it would be? thanks to all replies!

I just had visions of a Chevy 350 TPI sitting in there, or better yet 454 Fuel Injected. Then you could use the Oliver 60 to tow the trailer when you take your truck to the shows....LOL Good luck on the swap, and let us know how it turns out.

First of all, the only thing I would put a chevy in is a boat to use for an anchor :). My V-8 project is putting a flathead Ford in a 60 that I have. The small Ford flathead was known as a 60 HP, so what better canidate is there? I think keeping an old engine with an old tractor would look more original. The Funk conversion for the 8N was always cool and I've even seen a HG crawler fitted with an 8N engine and hood, now that was neat!

Talk about a boat anchor that is all a flat head ford is, and sixty horsepower, thats not hotroding, thats just an upgrade. poor misguided ford boys. i respect the keeping old with the old but my blood runs full off race gas. thanks for the input and i hope i didn't offend anyone, i am and always will be a chevy fan.

Probably one reason for few automotive engine transplants (as opposed to industrial engine swaps) is that each automaker has their own bolt pattern for the bell housing to engine matchup. Industrial engines have a universal bell housing shape and bolt pattern (hence you see diesel trucks with Detroits, Cummins, Cat, etc.- with the same transmission). Also, the automotive engines usually don't have the torque at reasonable engine speed to be effective- and its difficult to make a governor work properly on them. But this is not to say that it wouldn't be fun to do one- let us know how it turns out.
