Oliver 550 vs Ford 600/800 Power Steering

I have an Oliver built Cockshutt 550 with a front end loader and would dearly enjoy power steering.
After much research I gave up looking for used componants to retrofit my tractor, as not many 550's were sold with power steering so I am told.
Just now I was reading a message that suggested that Ford 600/800 have a similar steering system.
Did the Ford 600 or 800 have power steering as an option. If so has anyone compared the two systems in order to retrofit a Ford part onto an Oliver??
What are the chances that a Ford Power steering box would be any more available than an Oliver box.

I got lucky a couple years ago and found a complete power steering setup on an S55- got everything including the pump for $150, and put it on my 550- works like a champ! But its the only one I've ever seen (except on intact tractors), in 30 years of looking. If you ever find one, be sure to get the oil filter base too- it has an offset to clear the pump (mounted on the back of the generator- and you need the donor generator too). As to the Ford- the steering arms on the Oliver interchange with the Fords, and if you could find a Ford setup, I think you could make it work. The only place you would actually attach it to the tractor is the 4 bolts that bolt down the steering box, and you could adapt them if you had too. I've just about decided to salvage any power steering setup I see on any old tractor- they're so much in demand.

Thanks guys I have checked with some Salvage yards and found that used power boxes for the Ford 600 or 800 are as rare as the box for the Oliver.
Having said that I did find that there is a new power assist kit available for the Ford 3000, which may with a little rework do the job. Unfortunatly it only assists one side which would likely work effectively most of the time. The only time it would not work is when that side would be easy to turn and other would be hard due to different surfaces etc..

I did find that Roland Jackson has developed a retrofit power steering system for the Ford 600 and 800. Also kits available for 8n and 9n Fords.

He has not installed a kit on an Oliver,however he is also quite sure that his kits would (with minor modifications) fit, he is anxious to have some one try it. Check out his Web site at [email protected]
