The crank shaft for my 1755 has one rod jurnal that is .040+/- worn the rest of it is standard. The machenest recomends sending it to the city to be welded up and then grind the whole thing down to .010. does this welding hurt the strength of the crankshaft? Does it tipicaly last as long or am I better off buying new? I'm not intending to run it hard but then again I probably will some.

Crankshaft welding and grinding is okay as long as it is done by a company reputable for it. The best in the business is Storm Crankshaft Grinding Corporation in Mount Vernon, NY. They are well known nationally for precise heavy duty and racing applications. Their number is (914)664-3563.
