The hydraulics on my Super 88 suddenly and completely failed. At first I thought I was low on hydro oil, so added about a gallon. For about 5 seconds the hydraulics worked, then stopped. The reservoir was empty. I have determined that the oil was pumped into the tranny. I suspect that something (a seal?) has given way between the hydraulics and transmission. Next week-end I will begin the tear down. Anybody have any suggestions or tips or any advice at all please advise.

Stan; There could be several different reasons for this. Your center plate on the pump could be cracked, from the presure relif valve not working or if there was any moisture in the system it could have froze and cracked. It could also be the seals on the pump but usually this does not cause the oil to leak out that fast. I would think that your center plate is cracked.

stan, i think that the hydraulics on the fleetline series (66, 77, 88) and some of the super series sat on top of the transmission. i know they do on my 77.

there are seals and o-rings that separate the pump from the transmission. if they fail, they have to be replaced.

unclear to me if that also means that the pump needs to be rebuilt.

that's all i know so i'll shut up.

oh by the by..... there are several threads in the archives on this question. search through them for additional insight.
