Hi folks, I have a 1956 oliver super 55 , converted to 12 volt system , good tires , new ones on the front , has a little oil blowing out the crankcase breather & when I checked the plugs their was oil on the #4 plug does this mean time for a overhaul? & the tractor seems to be missing. And if I overhaul it & get it purrring how much is it worth about? Every thing else works on the tractor . Thanks in advance. Walt

A fair repaint (overspray behind the grille, steam cleaned but totally degreased, no sheet metal taken off, fair masking job) S55 with late 550 decals (and don't the silver decals look stupid on it instead of the nice yellow ones) is sitting on the local dealer's lot with a $3500 asking price. At a local consignment auction, the dealer ran the price on it to $2800 before everyone dropped out. I have a total of $3800 in my two, one a non-runnning diesel to restore, one a very rough but running gas with a loader, plus a spare motor. I turned down an opportunity to buy one with a hurt motor and a fair loader for $2000. This is in eastern MI. Now, a 550 is another matter - they go for $3000 slightly damaged, $3500 in good condition.

Walter,
If the tractor is otherwise in good shape, it is probably worth spending the money to fix it. Those 55 utility tractors will still bring $4,000 or more if overhauled and painted up.

walter, in my neck of the woods, you can't touch a super 55 that's in decent working order for much (if any) undr $4k. a nice 8N will bring $2500 in my area, and the S55 is so superior to the 8N that it warrants the $4k price tag.

and people pay it, too. everybody wants a small utility tractor in good working order right now.

as for whether or not you should overhaul, i don't know. you are cutting into your profit margin. there are mechanical guys here who know more than me on that one, so i'll shut up...

good luck selling the 55..... ..
