88 Float valve

I bought a carburator kit for my 88, but the needle valve has a kind of rubber seal attached to the end. This seems to want to stick to the valve seat once the float closes the valve. Since the fuel is gravity fed, the valve no longer wants to open. Most of the needle valves I have seen before were all metal. Has anyone else had this problem, and what did you do about it.

That rubber is a compound known as Viton, and is very common. Is it sticking dry on the bench, or have you had it installed and 'wet'?

Also, those valves usually come with a small wire loop that fits on the float arm, and pulls the needle off the seat when the float drops. If that is missing, I may have one I could mail you. E mail back if need be. Bob K.
