I am 16 and need any help I can get on where to start on restoring an Oliver 88 Rowcrop and an Oliver 77 Rowcrop. I live in North St. Louis County,MO but they are in Red Bud, IL. Where can I get inexpensive manuals or copies of manuals. The Oliver 77 Rowcrop has been flipped and the steering wheel and shaft have been replaced, but it is hard to steer now. The 88 sat over winter with gas and water in it, due to a careless older brother. How do I check for a cracked block? Would the crack in the block always be big enough to see with the naked eye? PLEASE I NEED ANY INFORMATION OR HELP I CAN GET!!!

The I&T manual on Olivers have both in it. Cost is around $20 at most farming stores. As for cracks in the block, you can have external and internal cracks or both. The most common site is a lateral crack on the "manifold" side of the engine running front to back just above the starter motor. It will be easy to see under pressure if external. If internal you can leave the oil drain plug out and fill the radiator and see if water runs out of the drain hole. This will assess for large cracks only. If no water shows, fill the engine with oil and fill the radiator with water or antifreeze and let the engine run until good and warm. Then drain the oil into a clean container (preferably clear) and let it sit and settle. Then check the bottom of the container for evidence of water/antifreeze. As far as the steering goes, I'd disconnect the shaft from the steering box (under the radiator) and see if the shafts are under a bind when disconnected. If it turns freely, the problem is in the box or front end.

I was also wondering where I can find good inexpensive tires. I need the two front tires on the Oliver 88 rowcrop. I also need 3 rear tires on the Oliver 88 rowcrop. It has duals on the left side. I am also wondering where I can find headlights that are mounted above the rear wheels for the Oliver 77 rowcrop. By the way if anyone needs an original manual for the Oliver 77 email me or post a response here with your email address and I'll copy mine and send it to you. I've found though that the original manual for the Oliver 77 doesn't provide that much useful information for me.

Does it have 13.6 or 15.5x38? Alot of the 88's were upped to the larger size. Where are you located? I might have a few around and some weights also. Just post response here and I will get back. Sorry about the delay on the response, but it's been a little busy...

Dual on only the left sounds unusal. was there ever one on the right alot of guys would remove the right dual to run in the forrow for plowing and leave the left one on for extra traction. I looked for 12-38 and 13.6-38 used tires in the past but they are few and far between.

Yes it used to have duals on both sides but they took the right side's dual off for plowing.
