Oliver 1355 block heater placement

I purchased a block heater at a napa store. Instructions indicate approx. 100 appilcations (none of these are oliver) with specifics on which frost plug to use. I removed the easiest one (LF) and of coarse it won't work there. Does anyone know which one to use as I hate to do any more trial and error. I think this series 1355 tractor is 1971-73 with a four cylinder Perkins engine. Thanks for any help.

A 1355 with a perkins? Try this. Look at the tachometer. If it says FIAT then you have a 1355 White-Oliver, which is made and powered by a Fiat. These are 50 hp or so, and stand about 5 1/2 feet tall (less than 2 meters). The other 1355 is really a Moline 1355, which is a large tractor, standing well over 6', 140+ hp, and will not have a Fiat tach. If you have the Moline iwth green paint send Dsl (next post up) a picture, and I can't help you. If you have a Fiat, try the Allis dealer, I've seen som Allis incarnations (5020 maybe?) of the same tractor (at least the sheet metal swaps). The block heater on these is really a radiator hose heater, if I recall correctly it sits in the lower heater hose. Hope this helps.

D13 thanks for the reply. The 1355 that I have is approx. 50hp. It is green, however the dash was missing when I got it. I was told it had a Perkins engine, guess that was bad info. I assume it is Fiat then. It is very simular to a Long 445 of the 70's, if anybody recalls them. The bottom raditor hose is on the left and has a metal insert about 3-4 in. long between the hose of the radiator and the water pump. It has one threaded hole approx. 10mm dia. with a bolt in it which is the only drain for the radiator.

There should be a coolant drain on the block, left side, looks like about 4" behind the alternator. Both of these should have drain cocks in them. I suspect they are metric (like the rest of the tractor)and therefore standard (i.e. inexpensive)ones won't fit.

The block heater goes on the right side, on the front face, just inboard of the injection pump gear cover, about level with the bottom of the cover. There's a fairly small hole there where a probe type heater will fit. AGCO might still sell these for the little Allis' or maybe White/Fiat will still have them. Two hours will normally do it.

A milkhous heater and a canvas tarp (about $50) will do the same thing but is nowhere near as convenient.

THe engine is a 190.4 CID Fiat, if that helps.

My sister likes hers a lot. It does not like to start cold but it sure does the job. A lot of little things are going wrong, but we've managed t okeep it going. Good luck with yours!

White has a castiron replacement elbow for the bottom hose that take the same heater as the larger Olivers use.
