My dad recently gave me his Oliver 70 which he purchased new in 1948. This was his first tractor when he started farming in N.W. Iowa. I remember being 5 or 6 years old and riding with him all day when he cultivated corn. It was the first tractor I drove when I started helping around the farm a few years later. I had it transported to where I now live in Montana and hope to restore it to original condition. Last month we visited him at Thanksgiving and we were looking at old home movies and found 8mm movies he had taken of this tractor when it was brand new before he took it out in the field for the first time. These are interesting movies as he tied the steering wheel so the tractor would go in a straight line then took the movie pictures of it moving across the yard with no one on it. Have movies of it moving from left to right also movies of it coming directly at him as he took the pictures. Really quite imaginative photos as one is of the tractor coming at him until the grill fills the whole screen another of tractor coming at him until the rear tire fills the whole screen. I'm really pleased to have these old pictures as it shows me exactly what the tractor looked like brand new. I plan to restore it and duplicate those same images on video when I have it completed. Also planning on having all this old 8mm movie film transferred to video I'm really pleased to have this tractor along with his Farmall 450 which I also have out here. Don't know exactly the purpose of this post but I hope the other old tractor buffs out there will appreciate how important it is to me to keep these in the family.
