My father and I would like to restore an 88 Rowcrop Oliver. After my mom's parents passed they left her the farm in Red Bud, Illinois. We don't farm it. But we still maintain it and use it. My grandpa was always an Oliver fan thats all he ever farmed with. We have two more Olivers but the 88 is the most restoreable. My father overhauled the engine once for my mom's dad when he worked for him. He has the knowledge but we don't know where we can find parts. We are on a tight budget, but we'd like to make it a Christmas present for my mom because she loves the Olivers. We don't have much money to restore the 88 with because we just roofed, repaired, and painted a barn that is over a hundred years old. The 88 possibly has a cracked block. The Super 77 Rowcrop runs but it was rolled 15 or so years ago. The 88's front tires are both flat and two of the rear tires are flat. Its set up to plow, having duals on one side and a single tire on the other. I understand that tires are expensive. The body on the 88 is perfect other than it needs paint. I work at a bodyshop and can get it painted there. I need help on the paint codes for the green and yellow. How do I tell if it had red or green wheels. My dad can't remember which they were. He thinks they were red. What is the code for the red? If anyone can please help me make this Christmas surprise for my mother come true it would really be appreciated. The tractors and the farm are all that she really has left of her parents and I want to make this a special Christmas. If you have any information or can offer any assistance please post a message or email me at [email protected].

I have restored two 88's. The first thing you have to do is determine if the block is indeed cracked. 88 blocks are hard to come by in my area and if you don't have a sound engine you don't have anything. The total expense involved in totally restoring a sound tractor can run from two to five thousand dollars, depending on what you encounter during the process and you doing all the labor. Parts and tires are expensive, as is the paint. I don't know what your particular definition of tight budget means, but having a tractor tore down and not being able to afford to finish it is going to be a big disappointment. Good luck at whatever you decide.

The best place to find the paint codes is on the Kline site www.members.tripod.com/~KlineAntiqueTractors/index.html It is also linked off our farm site at www.geocities.com/cannonfarms There also is a picture of a 77 I painted last year there. I used paint mixed at a parts store from these codes and it worked wonderfully. The best place to get decals is at Lyle DuMont's also off Kline site. Best of luck with your project.TC

You should scrape the existing paint on the rims to the last coat of paint before you hit the primer. Go to your nearest paint store I guess and have them analyze the paint. I've heard of many people doing this to find out the color coded of tractors, but my father and I have never tried it. We have a Oliver 88 too. We tried to match the nearest color to the rim when we scraped the rim down. Since you have a tight budget the original paint is going to cost you a fortune. The closest paint my father and I got ran us about a $150.00 quart and we have the total of all the colors about $400.00 for the name brand. I hope this can help you some what.

Meadow Green is the color, avaiable at any AGCO dealer and I have had ok luck with it. It is good paint for just making her look good. Not show quality so-to-speak. The wheels are red. Do not have the numbers for the red. There are lots of places to get parts for the motor. I'll look them up. be back in touch.

Call 618-473-2855 or 618-939-8723 This must be some neighbors of yours you don't know. They make several parts for oliver and can help you out. Do not use meadow green this is for the newer oliver. The red is 99L 3752 I can't remember the green but Korves Bros the # I gave you can tell you what it is.

Ok your right but I thought he was on a small budget and meadow is very close. I am not a neighbor. I just know where to get parts. On another note yes the Kline sight mentioned is good, he is a good source of info but I have not been able to get it to work for about a month
