I AM NEW TO THE TRACTOR SCENE.I HAVE RUN ACROSS AN OLIVER 880 THATS BEEN IN STORAGE FOR SEVERAL YEARS.IT HAS A LOADER.IT ALSO HAS A PLOW,BUSH HOG AND DISC THAT COME WITH IT.THEY ARE ALL IN NEED OF SERIOUS WORK,SO I DON'T SEE THEM ADDING MUCH VALUE.IT NEEDS NEW HYDRAULIC HOSES AND ALL NEW TIRES.THEY ARE TOTALLY SHOT.THE OWNER SAYS IT RAN GOOD SEVERAL YEARS AGO WHEN HE PARKED IT.IT ALSO NEEDS A NEW BATTERY AND PROBABLY A FULL TUNE UP.WHAT WOULD SOMETHING LIKE THIS BE WORTH?I DON'T WANT TO OVERPAY FOR SOMETHING THAT MAY BE NOTHING MORE THAN SCRAP METAL.PLEASE HELP!!!!

If you are able to get a jump to it, or put a battery in it, you might be well served to do a quick compression test on the engine. It won't take too long to complete, but will add information to the decision of value. I would want to get the tractor running first myself, because you won't know what condition the transmission is in until you drive it. If you like to take chances, good luck! I would look at what the potential value is, then deduct for the costs of all that will be required to get it there. The loader should be worth something even though it needs hoses. They aren't all that expensive. A wide front end will add value in my area. Three were made, the adjustable Row Crop, the solid straight Row Crop Standard, & the wishbone solid Wheatland. The 880 is a great workhorse & economical on fuel. The Row Crop w/adjustable wide frt w/o 3 pt., should be worth $2500-$3000 w/o a loader, in restored condition.

Check out the Oliver photos on this site and look up the 880 Oliver if you haven't already. I looked at Kent Aschenbrenner's 880 picture yesterday, it's restored. Very sharp tractor. Let me know what's going on with the 880 you are looking at.

I have looked at the pictures regularly.hoping to see some new posts soon.I used the picture of his tractor as wallpaper on my computer screen.very nice!!!I'm still waiting to hear from the owner what he wants for it.He's retired in Florida'and it's taking awhile.I don't mind waiting if the price is right.one thing i've been wondering,some 880's have a straight axle and some have a wishbone style front axle.is this a difference between models (rowcrop vs.wheatland) or what?Thanks in advance.I'll keep you updated of anything i find out. Sean

Is it a Wheatland version(non-adjustable WF axle wide back tires,low profile and does't have 3pt.? If so I think the value would be less. Try to jump start it and if it runs I would offer $1200.

the tractor is a rowcrop ,wide front.i'm still waiting to hear from the owner what he wants for it.thanks for the input.i will definately ask him to jump it for me to prove it will turn over satisfactorily.

I FORGOT TO ADD THAT IT DOES NOT HAVE A 3 POINT HITCH.THE SHEETMETAL IS DECENT.TWO OF THE TIRES ARE FLAT(ONE FRONT AND ONE REAR) AND IT NEEDS A MUFFLER TOO.I'M NOT SURE IF IT WILL EVEN RUN.THE BATTERY IS DEAD SO IT WON'T TURN OVER.THE MOTOR CAN BE TURNED OVER BY HAND THOUGH.

Since it doesn't have 3pt. a kit will probaly cost $500 unless you don't need one. New back tires I'm guessing their probaly 14x38's will cost $400 and this spring we put new front tires on our CASE tractor at $57 a piece.A muffler about $25-$30. $1500 to get it functioning o.k. is possible but it's probaly worth it. Maybe if you are patient a good used set of tires will come your way.
