I need a gas hercules 4 cly engine for a cockshutt 550 tractor do not know cid or series ? Need as much info on this tractor as possible? What color is the paint? it is green and brown now!Where do I find serial number? Need seat! The tin is good and its all there but the engine is stuck and busted, what it worth? Thank you for your help! Dann P.S what other engine will bolt in and fit easy!

Cockshutt 550 serial numbers are on right side frame rail beside carberator 1958- bm1001and up 1959- bn5001 and up 1960- b0 1001 and 1961 bp 1001 . The paint is Harvest Gold from Sherwin-Williams JK 8523 but it sounds like your a long way from the painting part !!

It has a 198 Hercules engine you can replace it with a newer version a 2300 series but you have to drill the end of the crank for the pto drive if you want it to have a pto. I know some Barber Green pavers used this engine. they are not easy to find and very expenseve to rebuild. I have a friend that has a 198 that is completely rebuilt he did mention selling it. E mail me if interested.I seen 550s go from a few hundred not running to 4500.00 running.
