Fluid replacements on Oliver 550, hydraulic

Help! Manuals have been ordered but I need some guidance on hydraulic servicing on a 63 Oliver/Cockshutt 550 gas. Under the seat is a small dipstick 4 inches in length. Just forward of the hydraulic filter is an access cap 2" in diameter. Does this access cap sevice the hydraulics or is it for transmission and is the dipstick for the same hydraulics? I can see no fluid whatsover in either the dipstick area or beneath the cap which appears to provide access to a gear drive, possibly hyd pump? How can I check the transmision levels or rear transmission?Hoping to get fluids changed before winter arrives!!!

You fill the hydraulic system up through the dip stick cap under the seat. The cover up forward of the seat is for the transmission and differential. To the right of the PTO, there is a small pipe plug. Remove the plug. The transmission is at the right level when the fluid is up even to the hole the pipe plug came out of. If you fill the hydraulics and it winds up draining into the transmission area, you have either a bad pump seal, or a perforation in your hydraulic oil pan. I use Coastal Multi-Trac Tractor fluid in both areas. If I get hydraulic fluid into my differential it does not matter as it is the same fluid. The new tractor fluids are much better than the motor oils the manuals called for way back when, and the kind I use meets the Oliver specification 55.
