Al, I asked a machinist friend of mine at work.
He said the minimum recomended wet sleve thickness
is .175 he took a set down to .125 for a guy once
and it wasn't very long before they started to crack. Hope this helps

Any engine shop should be able to get new sleeves for you. 3 1/2" is the common oversize for these engines. A.P.I.in North Dakota has sleeve assemblys for 110.00 per hole for this engine for example.

Al, why don't you just decide what bore you want and buy a set of universal sleeves to do the job? I have a 70 with a 3 9/16" bore and thats what I used, I know of another with 3 5/8". It takes a lot of boreing of the block. You will have to have a copper head gasket made, Lubbock Gaskets in Texas can do that.

thanksfor the comments Mac,but i do not think this will work in a wet sleeve engine because of the details on the o.d. of the sleeves.also i am in eastern ontario, long way from texas.

It should work. The person to ask is the one who will do the boreing.

I have seen this done before. I would compare the thicknes of the correct sleeves and if they are simalar to what the bored ones end up, i would guess its ok.

Al: Do you know anyone that is in the race engine building business? They will have sonar equipment that will indicate wall thickness before boring.
