I bleed JD green but I enjoy all "breeds" of antique tractors. I have heard 10 different people say cockshutt in 10 different ways so I figured I'ld ask you experts your way. Does it sound like shoe or shut ????? Let me know. thanks :-)

Well, I'm from Ontario, home of Cockshutt, and it can be pronounced many different ways, but the chief form is just as it's spelled. However, the older folks always used to say, 'CockSHOT', with emphasis on the 'shot'. There's also, 'Cockshoot', 'Coeshoot', 'Cackshatt', and likely others still that I've forgotten. Now, if you want to talk about people not knowing about farm equipment, you should see the looks I get wearing one of my Cockshutt shirts to Toronto or Ottawa! Especially with that boomerang/target logo....

LOTS of Cockshutt here (shameless plug...)

Here in western Canada we saw shut. Where did you here shoe? I have never heard that before.

I'm from Michigan and have heard cockshoe, cockshoot, cockshut, cashoot....list goes on and on.....Just curious :-)

In NC I have heard Cockelshoot I also had a lady ask me what type of JD was my 30. The best one my wife told a friend who was on the phone that I was playing with my Cockshutt in the gararge.

And that is probably WHY we hear it mispronounced so often. Trying to avoid offending anyone NOT familiar with tractors!
