Is this an 88?

I have an opportunity to purchase what I believe to be an 88. It is an industrial model with a factory V4DF Ware loader and fully enclosed cab. It has two slab weights like the OC-4 crawlers mounted under the operator's platform and 14.9 x 24 rears with heavy cast hubs.

The model # is 17-7012, serial # 15 692 714 and the following numbers are on the block 185220 & what appears to be 1N100B.

Any information on this beast would be appreciated.

I think its a S77 industrial. It has a super number and the 700 on the end was for 77. The block number should be 1M100B.

Larry,

I was told that the tractor was from the late 40's - early 50's which would predate the Super series. If you send me an e-mail directly, I will send you a picture.

A picture won't help, Its harder for me to be sure that way. If your numbers are correct then its pretty clear. That numbering system started in 1954. It features three numbers on the end that are reserved for each tractor model,S77 start with a 7 the next two numbers tell the transmission and that usualy will tell which version it is. A S88 starts with a 8. A S66 starts with a 6 and so on. The other numbering systems prior to this do not fit your numbers. One system starts with 35. The other has a number that is resvered for each model at the start.

Thanks for the post. I am going to try and take another look at the tractor and will look for the flat spots on the frame. It has only had 2 owners and the original purchaser is apparently still alive. I will try to see if he has any other info.

Look on the frame for flat spots with bolt holes to mount equipment,that will show its made after 1954.
