What are the differences between 77-88 and Super 77-88, weight, hp, options? Looking to buy one and would like to know as much as I can before purchase.

What are you doing with it? Any are nice to show. For pulling go with 77 as is lighter and can distribute weight better. Voice of experience. Also Supers are too "new" for some pulls. 77 near 40 hp and 88 near 50. Figure 10% more for Supers. We have a Super 88 Diesel dyno 58 hp. Is stock but has been rebuilt. Watch for hydraulics if it is a concern. Some have them but several do not. And several have quit working. Somtimes this is a major and sometimes minor problem. E-mail me if you like to talk more about Olivers. Don't know it all but like to help. Good Luck.

Buy the super if you get the chance. They look to be around the same pysical size. The supers have a better seat assembly. The supers have mounting pads casted into the frame , which makes it nice for mounting a loader , etc.. I think the supers have approx: 10 more HP. Both are good tractors. If you are going to use the tractor for haying , drawing wood , plowing garden , mowing fields , etc , etc , I wouldn't make my choice upon the 10 HP difference. The non-supers have plenty of power. I think I would make my choice according to the shape and price of the tractor. But I would favor the supers for the other reasons mentioned above.

You may even be lucky enough to get a super with power stearing , which is nice for loader work. Without a loader , the ones without power stearing also stear nice.

I don't know much about the 77's but the 88 and the super 88 are very similar. The super weighs about 200 lbs more due to mounting pads on the frame and a heavier built back end and back axle. As far as hp goes, the original 88 had a bore of 3 5/8 where the super had a bore of 3 3/4. However, if the motor has been rebuilt, which most of them have, they both will probably have a M&W overhaul kit which has a 3 7/8 bore for both models, giving them both a displacement of 283 cubic inches. Either one should produce mid fifties on a fresh motor for hp. The super also had a slightly larger carburetor, but this can be changed very easily if you're lookin for a pulling tractor. I have an 88 and my brother has a super 88, and either one will win at the pulls depending on how we have them weighted. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the info. It appears that a 88 will fill my needs. Now I need to find one.
