purchased a oliver 500 diesel tractor which runs good but know nothing about it and neither does anybody else in texas.paid about 2500 dollars and wonder if i got took. it has a small blow-by diesel leak, the plow lock is locked up, but the pto and 3 point work fine--cut 16 acres of 3 footplus weeds with it and worked fine and is excellent on fuel. my local case dealer has never heard of it, and I know the tractor is made by david brown for oliver and it is early 60's with live pto, medium size and nothing else.any help or present owner would be very helpful..thank you

I have just bought a 500 to send back to England to a DB collector. Just sold it for $3000.00 Canadian with a cracked block but runs. Sherry is right it is the DB 850. I can help you with parts and literature.

Last year i purchased a 500 oliver diseal. It is a 1961, which was purchased new in crossville, Tennessee. I have restored it, and have all the manuals that came with includig the purchase price. I like you cannot find out any imformation, The imformation i have got is very limited on these tractors.any help would be appricated. I plan on saleing it in the future.

While I may not be enchanted with NM's rather harsh response to you, I cannot really fault his conclusion. Not many of these tractors were sold, and I've only seen one during my 30 years' interest in Olivers. But on a more constructive note, I would suggest the following- find a former Case/ David Brown dealer, and ask to look through his parts and repair manuals to determine which David Brown you have. Then, just make believe it's white rather than green, and be happy!

You are not alone. The 500 was built from 1960-63 and is basically the same as the David Brown 850. It's bigger brother, the 600, was only built in 1962-63. Check out www.davidbrowntractor.com Sam Kennedy is pretty knowledgeable about the David Brown line and can give you some advice. If that doesn't get you somewhere let me know. I know a man in KY that has one restored and I can find his telephone number.
