I JUST PURCHASED A 1948 OLIVER 60 ROW CROP WITH ALUMINUM HOOD AND SIDE PANELS. ANYONE KNOW WHY SOME WERE ALUMINUM AND HOW RARE THEY ARE? THANKS!

Sherrys post is correct on the aluminum panels and hood. There was a problem with the aluminum cracking, thus the company sent out replacement steel parts to the dealers that had sold the tractors. Appearently your tractor did not get the parts replaced by the dealer or the owner just hung the new panels in his corn crib. I got a new set of motor doors from a farmer that hung the new ones on the machine shed wall.

World War II created a shortage of steel for several years. In order to keep production going they made side panels and hoods out of aluminum. There were also brake pedals and throttle levers made out of brass on some of the 88's. There are several tractors out there wearing aluminum but they are harder to find.
