I am having problems with my 1650 running very lean, it misses terribly when it is cold and after it warms up to operating temperature after about 10 mins or so it will run fine. I have had the carb apart and cleaned it up good and i set the float up to the factory spec hoping it would get more fuel but seems to run even leaner now. My IT manual doesn't say anything about what the two scews on top the carb do, there is a big one that goes into the top part of bowl and one that goes at a angle into the throat of the carb. What do these do? I know one must be a Idle and other Load needle? my book doesn't tell me anything about this just tells me to set these appropriatly, what should they be set to?
I know the carb is a Marvel - Schebler Model TSX-807.

Boy, did you ask the right guy!

The first one to adjust is the idle mixture screw which is the smaller one that angles into the carb throat. The correct adjustment is 1 and 3/4 turns out.

The other screw, the big one that goes into the bowl is the high speed mixture screw and the correct adjustment is out 3 and 1/4 turns.

These are ballpark per the operator's manual but I find that on my 1650 they are right on the money.
