I recently picked up a cockshutt 99 and it runs perfect but shifts really hard grinds bad , there is plenty of adjustment but it doesn't seem to matter. the clutch doesn't slip at all under a load , and everything seems to be moving free but shifts hard . the tractor has been sitting for a long time and I just figured the disk was stuck ti the flywheel . any other ideas before I have to split this thing ?????

We had trouble when we first got our 90. There are three square pegs that the pressure plate slides on. When we got the tractor a mouse had been inside the clutch housing and it was full of crap. Needless to say the pressure plate was rusted to the pegs. We soaked the clutch with all sorts of stuff, which probably was bad for it and finally just stuck something in and pried it loose. The best thing to do is take the cover off the top of the clutch and see if the pressure plate moves. I guess that's where would start. I don't think we got too rough on ours, but we did get it refaced before we got done.

after further inspection it seems that only one side of the pressure plate is moving do you think that could still be the plate rusted to the posts or does it sound more like a bad finger???

The fingers have adjustments one of them may have come loose or is stuck or the bolt is broken. A service manuel should show how to adjust the fingers. The ends should all be at the same distance from the flywheel.

I'm not sure, could be. Those fingers are pretty big, I wouldn't think one would be broken. I don't know if maybe only one would have rusted. It's a pain to take that all apart to work on the clutch. The only thing I can say is rotate it and see where it isn't loose and check to see if the pressure plate is frozen. There is adjustment on the pressure plate. If you rotated that it could be too tight, I doubt that is the case though. I'm just kind of learning about the tractors. I've got a motor from a '50 99 torn down now. It's pretty much taken me two motors to make one good one. I'm working on building one with five inch M%W pistons. I just hope I can get it done.

Found it, Thr problem turned out to be the pressure plate stuck on the guides, just like the first post stated. I would like to thank those who posted for their help.
