i would like to find some information on a cockshutt 1600. i think its 1960? but not sure. there is a metal plate on between the brake and clutch with two numbers 16-2292 and 129156-607 and thats all that i can read. i have looked at several web sites but i can not find any serial info, pictures on anything on this model. thanks

Oliver, Cockshutt and Minneapolis Moline merged (I'm not sure in which order) in the early 1960's, and produced tractors with each of the three names until the early 1970's. All were based on the Oliver chassis and sheetmetal- some slight differences in the grills. The Olivers and Cockshutts were all equipped with Oliver engines, and what you have is an Oliver 1600 painted red, with a Cockshutt nameplate and decals. The Minneapolis Molines were a little more complicated- since MM had such strong engines, most of theirs were equipped with MM engines (but I believe some had Oliver engines). The MM's had a different model numbering system, but the chassis parts will interchange with Oliver for the most part.

That serial number matches with an Oliver 1600 from 1963. I do not know when Oliver and Cockshutt merged but I would suspect that Oliver made that tractor.
