5.9 Cummins/1800 Engine Swap?

Can this be done? What all has to be done? Will it (the 1800) hold up? The neighbor guy has an 1800 sittin in the weeds with a blown engine. What do you guys think? PS, I'm 45 miles from Burchfields and from this board I've learned they do 1950's.

The 5.9 Cummins will fit in the 1800. We have been using a frame from a 1850 perkins diesel along with the bell housing from it and you save yourself a lot of work. The motor mounts need to be cut out of the waukesha frame and there is a fair amount of other work that needs to be done. If I was to do this, I would find a 1855 with a blown motor and put it in that. You wind up with a much better tractor for your money. The cummins fits in the perkins frame the best and you don't have any cutting or grinding that need to be done really. My dad has done about 5 or 6 and had great success.

Hi Duane, If you don't do this conversion I would like to get the 1800 thats in the weeds. I am rebuildin a 1800 and could use any and all the parts on the old one. I just rebuilt the engine on the one I have. Thanks Don

A number of places in the midwest are doing this. It takes some new parts to make everything fit.Also alinment of the engine is hard and must be real good or clutch parts will fail. The rears hold up fine.
